Playa del Carmen, January, 2003

Page 1

This page is going to be somewhat temporary. It's Jan. 26th and I'm still in Playa, but I wanted to get some photos up ASAP. When I get home, I want to clean this page up a bit and get the photos a little more organized and get more text (I've been keeping a journal that I want to draw on).

First of all, let's begin with some photos of Playa itself.

The three pictures above are what the streets of Playa look like at around 5:30am - 6:30am

And this is what it looks like most of the other 23 hours, during high season. Actually, it's not quite this busy all 23 hours, but it's like this from about 7:00am to probably 1:00am. 2:00am-5:00am, it's a little slower, but you'll still see people going up and down the streets constantly.

And this is the beach early in the morning. I thought it would be nice to show what it's like when it's not packed with people. I'll get some with it packed up on the site later.

Next let's move on the ATV jungle tour we did. In the picture to the left, you see all the participants except Christian, who's taking the picture. The blonde guy in front is Guus, the owner of ATV Adventure and also the hotel where I'm staying. Guus was nice enough to take us on the trip at no charge. He's a super guy. The middle picture is a cave we stopped at on the trail. Those black spots on the roof of the cave are bats, and you may notice the reflection of the roof on the water below. The third shot has, from left to right, Nikolas, Christian, and Sergio. Nikolas and Sergio are Christian's brothers visiting from Chile, and they're also the other guys in the first picture, of course.

Now some people pictures with me :-) The picture on the left is a friend, Anna. She and her husband run a pretty successful web site and do a lot of promotional stuff for hotels. Her husband, James, now drives my old Honda. I'll try to get a picture of the wreck that was my car, before I return. It's a mess. Anna and James are really cool guys and good friends. In the middle is a picture of Nikolas and I in front of my hotel (where he also is working during his 3 months vacation here). And finally, the picture on the right is me and my buddy Robert Plant out on the beach. Somebody told me he was in some band, Led Zepplin, or something like that ;-) Actually, apparently the night before I arrived, he was singing karaoke at a friend's bar. Sorry I missed that.

Actually, Playa draws quite a few famous people. While I've been here, a number of stars have passed through, including Farrah Fawcett (who I saw my first week living here), Tim Allen, a bevy of playboy playmates for a shoot, and more. This is the first time I've ever gotten a picture with one. I kind of got pushed into it and wasn't real comfortable doing it to the poor guy, but what's done is done.

And last (for now), but not least, the requisite baby photos. On the left, we have Christian with his 7 week old son Sebastian. In the middle, Christian, Katherine, and Sebastian, and finally, me with Sebastian.

I may do one more posting like this before I return. If not, I'll put together the pages when I get back and many, many, more photos.
